5 Klaviyo Flows to Prioritize for Your Shopify Store

For many Shopify stores, the first Klaviyo flows to evaluate are welcome, checkout abandonment, browse abandonment, post-purchase, and win-back. Prioritize them according to your traffic, subscriber growth, purchase cycle, and existing setup. Installing all five does not guarantee revenue; relevance and correct delivery matter more than the number of automations.

Klaviyo flows send messages in response to defined conditions or behavior. They complement scheduled campaigns. Klaviyo's introduction to flows explains the basic framework and available starting points.

1. Welcome: give new subscribers a reason to care

Use a welcome series to deliver what your sign-up form promised, introduce the brand, and help someone choose a product. Do not turn every message into a repeated discount reminder.

Suggested content sequence: fulfill the sign-up promise, explain the product's distinguishing value, then answer a common buying question. For jewelry, an educational message might explain materials, sizing, or how to choose a piece for an occasion.

Review whether new customers need different content from subscribers who have never purchased. Make sure the flow's audience and channel eligibility match the promise at sign-up.

2. Checkout abandonment: resolve the last objection

This flow addresses shoppers who began checkout without completing the purchase. Klaviyo documents a Started Checkout trigger with a filter excluding people who have since placed an order. The trigger and filters work together; merely entering a flow does not mean someone should keep receiving reminders. See Klaviyo's trigger and filter guidance.

Suggested content: a useful reminder, answers about delivery or returns, and a clear way to get help. If you use an incentive, evaluate the effect on margin and customer behavior rather than adding a discount automatically.

Check for overlapping reminders from Shopify or other apps before enabling another sequence.

3. Browse abandonment: help an interested visitor decide

A product view is a weaker signal than a started checkout. Use a lighter approach for eligible, identified visitors whose browsing activity is available to the integration.

Suggested content: useful product context, a relevant alternative, or an answer to a common question. Avoid wording that makes a shopper feel watched. Review exclusions for people who progressed to checkout or already purchased so messages do not compete.

For a new store with little identifiable browsing activity, improving acquisition and sign-up quality may deserve attention before expanding this flow.

4. Post-purchase: improve the ownership experience

A purchase begins a customer relationship. Help buyers understand what happens next and how to get value from the product. Keep marketing messages coordinated with transactional order and shipping communication.

Suggested content: care instructions, useful setup advice, or a timely follow-up after delivery. A jewelry customer may appreciate storage and cleaning guidance before another sales pitch. Recommend complementary products only when the recommendation fits the purchase.

Review timing against fulfillment reality. A request for a review should not arrive before someone can reasonably have received and used the item.

5. Win-back: match the customer's buying cycle

Choose timing using your own repeat-purchase behavior. A consumable product and an expensive jewelry purchase have different natural cadences. A fixed interval copied from another brand may be inappropriate.

Suggested content: a relevant new collection, a helpful reason to return, or an appropriate offer. Review engagement and stop repeatedly contacting people who are not responding.

Before turning flows live

  • Verify that your Shopify integration supplies the events and product data the messages need.
  • Test triggers, exclusions, re-entry behavior, personalization, links, and mobile rendering.
  • Check recipient eligibility and the appropriate consent settings for each channel.
  • Look for duplicate messages across platforms.
  • Choose reporting windows and review campaigns separately from flows.

In our jewelry ecommerce project, the Klaviyo screenshot separates campaign and flow results. That distinction helps identify which work produced the reported activity instead of labeling all email revenue as automation revenue.
